Private Guided Tour
The visit of the foundation is not only a visit to discover art but also a riveting story about the Maeght family and their friendship with the great artists of the 20th century.
To overpass the sadness after the lost of their son, in 1953, and under the suggestion of their friend Georges Braques, the Maeghts decided to found a non-profit organisation and any profit and any public subsidy where artists could work peacefully “in the middle of thyme and rosemary”.
Many great artists of the 20th century closely collaborated with the Catalonian architect Josep Lluis Sert to design and build the Foundation.
In the visit, you will discover a series of pieces made in situ: the Giacometti’s courtyard, the Miro’s Labyrinth as well as the mosaics by Chagall and Tal-Coat, Pol Bury’s fountain, Alexander Calder’s sculptures and stained glass windows for the chapel designed by Braque and Ubac.
The Maeght foundation it’s a suggestive place where art, nature and architecture segregate perfectly.
